Plemons Eakle Historic Site Survey

In 1988, a Historic Site Survey was completed of the Plemons Eakle neighborhood. The information was the basis for the 1992 registration of the neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places (www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com/tx/potter/state.html). The formal registration refers to the “Plemons- Mrs. M. D. Oliver-Eakle Additions Historic District (added 1992 - #92000370), also known as Plemons/Oliver-Eakle Historic District.”

The architectural style of the contributing buildings includes Late 19th and Early 20th Century American Movements, and Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals. The period of significance is listed as 1875-1899, 1900-1924, and 1925-1949.

The Cover and Introduction include acknowledgment of the tireless work of numerous individuals from the city, the county, local museums, community members, and the project team. The work was funded by Preservation Amarillo, Plemons-Eakle Neighborhood Association, Amarillo Historic Preservation Foundation, Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation, and Mary E. Bivins Foundation.

The Acknowledgement page states “The files on individual properties, architects, contractors, builders, community leaders, residents, and associated topics assembled by Lueise Tyson provided an in-depth view of the Plemons-Eakle Neighborhood District and its residents that would not have been possible without her assistance.”

HOW TO ACCESS THE SURVEY DATA:

  1. There is a 1988 Historic Amarillo Survey page for each address. Each address is organized by Street name. Each Street is one file with multiple pages.

  2. Select your Street of interest and a new Street Index Page Tab will open.

  3. The first page of the file is an index listing addresses on that street for which there is a 1988 Historic Amarillo Survey page. Look at the Address column and select your address of interest. The files are linked to jump to the 1988 Historic Amarillo Survey page for your selected address. For example, if you are interested in 1100 S. Harrison: Select Harrison, and then select 1100 in the Address column.

  4. At the lower left-hand corner of the 1988 Historic Amarillo Survey, select the green oval Return to Index button to search for other addresses. You are also welcome to scroll through the entire street file. Each successive page is a new address and is listed in numeric order.

  5. To return to this page and begin another street search, return to this Historic Site Survey Tab (one Tab to the left on your browser ribbon).
